This season the Memphis Grizzlies have arguably been one of the biggest surprise teams in the NBA as they have continued to defy the odds with a talented young core of players and the rebirth of Zach Randolph as one of the dominant players in this league.
Coming into this game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Memphis Grizzlies had just beaten the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers with two point victory 95-93. Win over the Lakers was impressive as they were able to beat the champs even after Kobe Bryant went off for 44 points and become the Los Angeles Lakers All-Time leading scorer by passing Jerry West on the list of Lakers greats.
No one in the league envied their next task as they had to hold off another great team in LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.
Even though the Grizzlies played well against Los Angeles, especially Zach Randolph who finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds, the Cavs were another beast altogether as they had to deal with two of the most dominant forces in the NBA in LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal.
Four Memphis Grizzlies scored in double figures against the Cavs with Rudy Gay (15 points), Jamal Tinsely (12), Marc Gasol (10) and OJ Mayo (10) cracking double digits, but it was nowhere near enough to compete with LeBron James and company as the Cavs just dominated the up and coming Grizzlies and ended the game in blowout fashion with a 105-89 victory over Memphis.
As usual, the star of this game was LeBron James who had point guard like numbers against the Grizzlies with 22 points on seven of 14 shooting and 15 assists. Along with LeBron putting on a show, Shaq added some solid numbers of his own with 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
Even though Shaq and LeBron led the way for the Cavs ninth straight win, J.J. Hickson (15), Daniel Gibson (16) and Zydrunas Ilgauskas (14) pitched in as well combining for 45 points between them.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will be going for their tenth straight win this Thursday against the Miami Heat in a rematch between Dwyane Wade and LeBron James who always seem to put on a show when they go head to head.
