LaDainian Tomlinson Needs a Headstone

It would appear that LaDainian Tomlinson’s days as a San Diego Charger are over. He pretty much said as much yesterday to the San Diego Union-Tribune:

“I’m not coming back,” said Tomlinson, who added that he believes the Chargers will release him. “… I’ve accepted it.”

The dude had one helluva ride in powder blue. Eight 1000-yard seasons, over 12,000 yards rushing and 153 total touchdowns. He could quit today and be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Will he hang ‘em up? Of course not.

Alas, poor LT will suffer the same fate as other broken down legends who clung to the last vestiges of their once great careers. Like Simpson, Dorsett and Smith before him, LT will delude himself into believing he still has gas left in the tank. Sadly, some running back-needy team will foolishly bring him aboard in hopes of extracting what little magic is left in his legs.

So, when you see LT in a Patriots or Seahawks uniform next season plodding away at two yards per clip, do yourself a favor and look away from the horror. Remember him as a Charger. He would want it that way.
