A few seasons ago, there was no basketball player more hated in the city of Los Angeles than center Kwame Brown of the Los Angeles Lakers. No matter what Kwame did, no matter how hard he supposedly tried to improve his game with the Lakers, all his efforts counted for nothing, but resulted in perhaps the best trade in Lakers history as he was the key player in the trade for Pau Gasol.
Kwame Brown is a freak of nature in terms of an athlete with a huge seven foot frame, all muscle, and potential to be the next big thing in the paint back when he was drafted by the Washington Wizards in 2001 with the first pick in the NBA draft. Brown was the first pick that Michael Jordan made as president of operations in Washington, so there was a lot of anticipation surrounding the big kid as most people believe that the best player ever to play the game had to have an eye for talent.
Unfortunately, the Kwame Brown pick by Jordan was just the first of many bad moves by MJ when he was involved with the Washington Wizards as Brown turned out to be a draft bust much like Sam Bowie was when he was drafted first overall by the Portland Trailblazers ahead of MJ in the 1984 draft.
Not was Kwame Brown the most hated athlete in Los Angeles before he packed his bags for Memphis, but he became infamous for his small hands throughout his time with the Lakers as it was damn near impossible for this seven foot monster to catch a single pass in the paint. Basically the guy was hopeless on offense during his time with the Lakers, but he is one of the better post defenders in the league and does still have some worth on the defensive side of the basketball floor.
Even though most, if not all, Lakers fans would hate to see Kwame Brown back in a Lakers uniform, Stone Hands Brown has an expiring contract which makes him a desirable target for title contenders this season and teams looking to free up some cap space at the end of the year.
Personally, I believe the Lakers should stay with their current squad and shouldn’t make any moves before the NBA trade deadline in February, but there is a slight possibility that we could see Brown suit up for the Lakers one more time.
