Even though the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers are still arguably one of the top teams in the NBA right now, they keep getting mentioned in trade talks as the February 18th NBA trade deadline draws near.
The one big name that keeps getting mentioned to possibly be on the move in Los Angeles is center Andrew Bynum to the Toronto Raptors for Chris Bosh, but as time marches on that trade seems more and more unlikely.
Another player linked with a move to the Los Angeles Lakers has been New Jersey Nets point guard Devin Harris, but much like the trade rumor involving Andrew Bynum, Harris coming to LA is less and less likely. If Harris were to come to LA it would most likely involve Jordan Farmar and Adam Morrison, which doesn’t seem like a bad move as Morrison is nothing more than player that plays strictly garbage time and Farmar has been taking a lesser role with the emergence of high flying Shannon Brown.
Despite Harris joining the Lakers seeming like a good move considering he is young up and coming player, Harris is a starter and will want to be on the floor as much as possible. With Derek Fisher and Shannon Brown getting the bulk of the minutes at the point, I don’t see the addition of Harris being all that beneficial unless Phil Jackson mixes up the roster a bit with players playing out of position.
So with the Chris Bosh and Devin Harris trade possibilities most likely nothing more than rumors, the Lakers have thrown yet another name in the mix in the Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich.
Unlike Bosh and Harris, the Lakers might be able to pickup Kirk Hinrich by just getting rid of some of their extra baggage by trading Sasha Vujacic and Adam Morrison to the Bulls in exchange for Hinrich.
Personally, that sounds like a good move to me as Morrison and Vujacic will not be missed and Hinrich would be a nice boost off the bench at both the point and two guard positions. The only problem the Lakers have with this move is the $17 million left on Hinrich’s two year contract.
