Kevin Millar Wants To Hang With His Buddies In Chicago

ESPN has reported that Kevin Millar and the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a Minor League contract. However, a team spokesman said Monday that ESPN is a liar, liar pants on fire and no such agreement had been reached.

The 38-year-old fist baseman, a career .274 hitter, has knocked 170 balls out of the park over 12 seasons with the Florida Marlins, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. Last season with the Jays kind of sucked for Millar, as he hit just .223 with 7 homers and 29 RBIs in 78 games.

“It’s been a very slow market as you have seen this offseason, but things have worked out,” he said. ”I’m excited to have a chance to compete for a spot with the Cubbies. I have a lot of buddies on that team.”

Naturally, Millar is referring to pitcher Ryan Dempster and first baseman Derrek Lee, who were teammates of his in Florida. During Spring Training 2008, Dempster boldy (and wrongly) predicted a long-awaited Cubs World Series title. Millar, then a member of the Orioles, raised the bar by saying that his team would wear the ring that year.

Furthermore, he promised he’d go deep off Dempster when the two teams met in Interleague Play. That didn’t happen, either.

Man, those guys suck at predictions.
