Here’s a shocker: Kerry Wood is out with a sore back.  Although the Cleveland Indians closer claims he’s not worried about missing too much time this spring, his history of injury has Tribe fans a little worried.

In 11 seasons with the Chiacgo Cubs, the veteran made 12 trips to the disabled list with various arm problems and surgeries… that may have had something to do with some sort of curse the north side is under, though.

Wood missed his scheduled outing on Saturday with an achy upper back, but is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Monday and return to the hill Wednesday night against the Cincinnati Reds.  He missed a couple days of spring training last year with the same sort of deal, but managed to go through the entire 2009 season without landing on the disabled list.

Speaking of back problems, Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts is leaving spring training camp in Sarasota, FL for Baltimore to visit a specialist regarding his back ailment.  Not to worry though, he participated in infield practice with the team on Sunday, and still aims to be ready for the team’s opener against the Rays at Tampa Bay on April 6.
