Kaymer Owes PGA Win To Scottish Caddie

If you’re like me, you were very disappointed that Martin Kaymer won the PGA Championship this past weekend because he’s German.  Perhaps you’ll, like me, take solace in the news out of Scotland that Kaymer couldn’t possibly have won the PGA Championship on his own, but really owes winning his first major to one man — Craig Connelly, his Scottish caddie. Kaymer, with typical German recklessness, was ready to go all autobahn on the last playoff hole when his caddie reeled him in.

A “golf insider” told Scotland’s Daily Record:

Craig earned his dough in the last hole of the play-off. Martin looked as if he was perhaps considering a shot that would have been an unnecessary gamble. Player and caddie were seen deep in consultation for a while and the end result was Martin went for the safe option and landed his first Major.

For his trouble, Craig the Caddie got a 10% cut of Kaymer’s winnings — a cool $135,000.  By comparison, Scottish golfer Stephen Gallacher, currently ranked 83rd in the world, tied for 18th at the PGA Championship and only got $75,000 for his troubles.  The last Scot to win a major was Paul Lowrie at the 1999 British Open.

More fun Craig the Caddie facts:

  • previously carried clubs for Colin Montgomerie and Paul Casey
  • on the first day of his first tournament working for Kaymer, Craig fell down in a sand trap

But remember Herr Kaymer, if you’re caddie’s not Scottish, you’re crap.

I can’t believe that “Sports Untapped” would allow Chalk to so openly display his prejudices against Germans in his article. It truly is sad that Chalk would denigrate a nice, young person, who also happens to be an immensely gifted golfer, simply because of his nationality.

I was front and center all day following Kaymer and playing partner Jason Day on the Straits. Give Martin some credit, he was calm cool and collected all day. What a star in the making! The D. Johnson issue is overated. He clearly broke the rules, ( by the way which were clearly posted on the 1st tee during the practice rounds earlier in the week and in the locker room every day). It was clearly a changing of the guard in golf…as the guys in there 20′s played lights out.

To Chalk: “Herr Kaymer” is not “crap.” That term should be reserved for bigoted fools like you. What exactly do you mean by referring to ” . . .typical German recklessness”? Kaymer played golf at the PGA Championship with patience and intelligence. You may think that your disgusting prejudicial statements were clever; but they are evidence of your own “recklessness.” I wonder . . . if Martin Kaymer were of Hispanic origin, or black, or Jewish, would you even dare to mention his nationality? The media should isolate you to the same place inhabited by Helen Thomas. The two of you would be such a beautiful couple! You were made for each other.

To Chris: Chalk and Helen Thomas as a “beautiful couple”? I believe that Helen is more discerning and has much better taste!

I do agree with you about Mr. Chalk’s obvious bigotry and lack of courage.
