Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Willie Colon likely won’t be protecting sleazy quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the field this season. Colon injured his ACL while working out Monday and is almost certainly done for the year. Colon is 27 and has played his entire career in Pittsburgh, starting 50 straight games. Besides blocking for Roethlisberger on the field, Colon was also the only Steeler with the quarterback when he was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old college student in a Georgia bar this past March. Colon said he didn’t witness any wrongdoing.
Given Roethlisberger’s apparent pattern of abusive behavior, it seems fair to suggest that karma might be at work.
Colon had an MRI on Monday, and the Steelers will likely announce the results Tuesday. The injury recovery time is at least five to six months, and a source told NFL.com that the Steelers plan to place Colon on season-ending injured reserve.
