Earlier this week, Boston Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett took a line drive to his head and suffered a mild concussion. No wimp like hockey’s Sidney Crosby or Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, Beckett has already been cleared to return to baseball activity. He’ll throw a three-inning simulated game on Friday and start a real pretend game next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Beckett’s feeling well enough to have some fun with the freak accident, wearing a white t-shirt that says “Can’t Hit Me” and presenting an orange vest and yellow hat to the coaching assistant who hit the bean ball. Check out video from NESN below:
“He’s going to have a normal day today,” Red Sox manager Terry Francona told reporters. “He feels really good. I think we thought he was OK, but when you start talking about concussions and things like that … But he looked clear-eyed right from the beginning. I know he had that headache, but he never seemed cloudy or anything like that.”
Last season was Beckett’s worst in his five years with the Red Sox, going 6-6 with a 5.78 ERA in 21 starts.
