Jose Canseco has made some outlandish statements in the past, and hasn’t done well in his charity boxing and MMA fights thus far. But when was the last time you’ve heard a real professional athlete/fighter say he was going to actually kill an opponent?  Tyson saying he was going to eat his opponent’s children?  Canseco, in the video at the bottom of this post, actually promises to “kill” Herschel Walker.

I don’t know maybe MMA fighters say crap like that all the time, the only time I’m interested in watching their fake McX-Games sport is if a real athlete is fighting.  (The Michael Westbrook episode of MTV’s Bully Beatdown was badass.)

In the video, Canseco says he was just tooling around and didn’t train at all for his previous fights, but for Walker he’s going to really train hard for a couple months.  Walker, while mainly famous for getting traded after going from Heisman Trophy winner to USFL star, has actually won an MMA fight.  Perhaps Canseco actually sees Walker as a challenge, or maybe Jose realizes his mouth is the only way he can scrounge up money nowadays.  (He’d probably be a better hitting coach than that dick McGwire though.)

Meanwhile, last Sunday, Canseco had quite a few harshly-worded tweets for his detractors.  My favorite’s probably: “@JoseCanseco: And when I win, maybe then, people will shut the fuck up. I think in today’s society fear is respect, as much as perception is reality.”

So Jose’s been reading some Machiavelli and maybe, just maybe, motivated to train to kill.
