There has been a lot of speculation around the NBA this season about where arguably the most popular player in the league will end up during this summer which is full of big name free agents looking to cash in.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have done all they can do to make their team a perennial title contender in the Eastern Conference by adding Shaquille O’Neal this past offseason and making the trade for versatile forward Antawn Jamison before the NBA trade deadline during this season.
With Shaq and Jamison the Cavs are a much better all around team as they can hurt in many different ways, but these two players also have some negatives as Shaq will not be around much longer as he will retire sooner rather than later and Jamison as been injury prone throughout his career despite putting up good numbers when he is healthy.
Those two negatives alone might be enough to convince LeBron James that the Cleveland Cavaliers are not a team looking towards the future, but settling for right now and that might not be what King James has in mind when he decides to sign for the long term.
The one team that has very publicly showed their interest in signing LeBron James when they get the chance this summer is the New York Knicks who are in desperate need of a drastic turn around with a big name player like LeBron.
It is no secret that LeBron James has a soft spot for New York as he is openly a big fan of the New York Yankees and loves to play at Madison Square Garden.
The big question is whether or not the New York Knicks will be able to bring in the kind of talent that LeBron James wants to play with to convince him to sign with New York. There is no doubting he will get paid an enormous amount of money, but who else will they bring in to play alongside him.
Throughout the season we have heard names like Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire, but it looks like the one player the Knicks might go after is the Atlanta Hawks Joe Johnson as many believe he will be the one player that compliments LeBron’s game the best and the one player willing to take a backseat to King James in New York.
It will be very interesting how everything pans out this summer, but I believe Joe Johnson and LeBron James in New York makes more sense than any other scenario I have heard so far this season. Another intriguing part is if they re-sign Tracy McGrady and go after Allen Iverson!
