Joe Girardi Schools Mark Sanchez

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez (pictured left getting mangled by Carolina Panthers) needs help on a few aspects of his game. Specifically, how to slide.

Coach Rex Ryan noticed Sanchez struggling with some of his slides while avoiding pressure in the last few games, so he gave New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi a call. The rookie worked on his sliding technique Tuesday with the Yankees skipper, who guided the Yankees to their 27th World Series title last month.

Ryan said he needed to “bring in a champ” to help his quarterback since… he couldn’t just teach him how to slide on his own, I guess.

With a sore left knee, Sanchez did some sliding on his right leg and tried 10-15 slides under Girardi’s supervision. Chalk this up to the biggest waste of time ever by a New York Jets QB, aside from one comeback season by an unnamed retiree.

On the other hand, Sanchez has lost a total of 151 yards on 20 sacks this season with a whopping 17 interceptions. Maybe if he masters this sliding business, he’ll throw fewer picks and get sacked less often. Probably not, though.
