The Dallas Mavericks have done the seemingly impossible as they were able to defy the odds throughout the majority of the playoffs and take down the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers in order to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2006.

With the Mavs now having a shot at winning an NBA title, which will be a first for their superstars like Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd, the question about the future of the team has started to get circulate. This team might be playing the best basketball the franchise has ever played, but Nowitzki and Kidd aren’t exactly young bucks anymore and are quickly seeing the sand in the hour disappear.

There is no question that the German superstar still has about five years left in the tank, but future Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd probably can’t say the same at 38 years old. Unlike many of the other superstars in the league, Kidd doesn’t depend on his athletic ability or have to lead his team to victory every single night. With that being said, the wear and tear on his body isn’t as severe as players like Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers), Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs) or even Dirk Nowitzki.

At times, Kidd’s performance on the floor can look mediocre, especially in the scoring column with single digit nights not being uncommon. Despite what is shown on the stat sheet, Kidd is crucial to the Dallas Mavericks’ success and one of the main reasons for their resurgence in the playoffs this year.

Most people believe that if the Dallas Mavericks are able to get the best of LeBron James and the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals, Jason Kidd will have gotten the one thing that has eluded him throughout his entire NBA career. With an NBA title, Kidd’s journey will be complete, but the All-Star point guard doesn’t believe it will be time to leave the game as he thinks he still has a lot left in the tank.
