The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a lot of trouble right now as they try and do all they can do from the roof caving in on them before July 1st. They just got rid their head coach Mike Brown of five years, two of which have been the most successful in the franchise’s history and longtime GM Danny Ferry has just resigned after not exactly seeing eye to eye with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert.
In my opinion, Mike Brown getting fired wasn’t exactly a big surprise to me as I was convinced that Dan Gilbert would make some sort of move in order to make his point across that he means business and will no longer tolerate failure in his organization. Danny Ferry calling it quits though, that was definitely surprise as this was to be perhaps the most important time in his career as an NBA GM.
Once Ferry officially resigned, the league and fans alike immediately took noticed and figured there were some things going down in the organization that might be hindering LeBron James from re-signing with the team this summer.
Even though I believe the Cleveland Cavaliers do have by far the best shot of signing LeBron come July 1st, Danny Ferry leaving town has really started to make me believe that it is very possible that some of the other teams around the league like the New York Knicks or the Chicago Bulls are the real team with the “edge” in the race to sign LeBron James.
One thing that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert has done recently to try and convince arguably the best player in the game to stay in his hometown is by trying to make one of the best head coaches in college basketball in Tom Izzo the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the next five years or so.
Reportedly, Gilbert and Izzo have been in talks about a possible five-year contract which would pay the Michigan State Spartans legend $6 million annually. That is twice the amount of what Michigan State pays him and might be just enough to convince him to jump to the pros.
