Is Stanley Robinson The Best Dunker in College?

Not a whole lot happened in college basketball last night, save for the upset of Villanova by the UConn Huskies (at Villanova, no less). However, thanks to the eye-popping athleticism of one Stanley Robinson — not to mention, his dunk against Cincinnati last Saturday — a question arose: Is Robinson the best dunker in college basketball this season?

While the answer is pretty much a completely subjective response, the question does warrant exploration. I’ll grant you, there are a number of explosive dunkers out there, especially in small schools, but I’m having a hard time thinking of someone who dunks with the authority that Robinson does.

In fact, his style is so authoritative, it almost reminds me of Blake Griffin.

Instead of relying on my hyperbole, lets go to the tape. Here’s Robinson’s dunk against Cincinnati:

And here’s a vicious put-back dunk against Georgetown:

And this nifty little alley-oop against Texas:

How could I forget about Robinson’s vicious put-back dunk against Michigan State:

Of course, that particular beauty was followed by Robinson getting absolutely crushed by MSU’s Durrell Summers, but that’s the price folks like Robinson pay for playing such a dunk-friendly sport.

Another put-back:

As you can see, most of Robinson’s highlight dunks are of the put-back variety. That being said, if I had jumping ability like Robinson does, I’d try to dunk every missed shot I could get my hands on as well. So while there may be more acrobatic dunkers in college basketball, I doubt very seriously there are many who can handle a put-back dunk as viciously as Stanley Robinson.

Best dunker in college? That’s debatable; but as a rebound dunker, Robinson has few, if any, peers.
