Chris Johnson has been tossing around the idea of putting on a charity event in which he races Usain Bolt to determine who the real world’s quickest human is.
As the NFL’s rushing champ, the running back missed his goal of 2010 yards this season by just 12 feet. The self-proclaimed world’s fastest man averaged 125.4 yards per game with 14 total touchdowns for the Tennessee Titans this year.
The distance of the race is still in the works, but Johnson would prefer a sprint while Bolt would most likely rather see who crosses the line first after at least 100 meters. As Chris Chase of Yahoo Sports laid out, “Running a 4.24 at the combines and having the ability to outrun a safety for the Houston Texans doesn’t mean [Johnson] can compete with that.”
I certainly can’t argue with that. While the three-time Olympic gold medalist and world-record holder has been labeled a “slow-starter” there’s just no way Johnson could keep up in the long run. But regardless of the outcome, it would be fun to watch and undoubtedly an excellent charity source.
Sadly, Bolt’s agent, Ricky Simms, denies the allegations.
“There is no truth to the story and I have contacted ESPN in an effort to get them to take the story down because we don’t want this to spread like wildfire,” Simms denied. “Usain doesn’t follow the NFL too closely and is not really familiar with all of the players. He likes futbol and cricket. But more importantly, he has a schedule and a coach to follow and there is no chance that we would set up this type of event.”
Ah, so basically, Bolt has no clue who this Chris Johnson fellow is and has no intention of racing some random NFL player. Not even for charity… Bummer.
