Ilgauskas Back to the Cavs?

There has been a lot of criticism surrounding the most recent blockbuster trade that went down before the NBA trade deadline which involved the Cleveland Cavaliers acquiring forward Antawn Jamison to play alongside superstar LeBron James.

Needless to say, the trade sent shock waves through the NBA, especially in the Eastern conference as the Cleveland Cavaliers gave up basically nothing in return for an All-Star caliber forward. The one key part of the trade that may some teams in the NBA feel as if the trade was a fair deal was the fact that Cleveland sent veteran center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to the Washington Wizards who ultimately bought out Ilgauskas’ expiring contract and waived him so he would deal to sign with any other team.

Reportedly, the Dallas  Mavericks have some considerable interest in signing the veteran center, but the Cleveland Cavaliers want to re-sign him so they have a back up for Shaquille O’Neal in the paint.

Even though Ilgauskas may ultimately end up with the Dallas Mavericks, who will probably offer more money than the Cleveland Cavaliers and possibly more of a prominent role, one of the main reasons the Cavs might have made the deal for Jamison was the fact that they would be able to sign Ilgauskas as they knew the Washington wizards would do nothing more than buy out his contract and waive him. It did however cost Ilgauskas $1 $.5 million dollars to get bought out by the Washington Wizards.

Now the Dallas Mavericks will probably offer Ilgauskas more money than the Cleveland Cavaliers made even more prominent role on the team, but the veteran center would definitely have a better chance of winning an NBA championship with LeBron James and company this season.

Unfortunately for Ilgauskas, according to NBA rules, the veteran center can’t sign with his former team for 30 days which will leave the door open for other teams that might be interested in signing Big Z.

Here are the other teams reportedly interested in signing him: Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets
