Has Terrell Owens Finally Worn Out His Welcome?

The Bengals brief flirtation with free agent Terrell Owens ended with the tiger stripes signing Antonio Bryant instead. There are still many months for TO to find a new gig, but you have to wonder, if the Bengals didn’t want him, will anyone?

TO, for the most part, was on his best behavior last year in Buffalo. However, his numbers dropped significantly, and for the first time since 1999, he recorded less than 1000 yards in a season in which he played at least 14 games.

Now, the Bills disastrous quarterback situation didn’t do Owens any favors, but that can’t excuse the fact that he’s 36 and looked slower than normal in 2009. Declining physical tools and a checkered past might have finally caught up to him. Even receiver needy teams like the Raiders, Browns and Rams have shown little interest in the six-time Pro Bowler.

It could be that Owens will suffer the same fate as Marvin Harrison did last offseason. At 37, nursing a bum knee and embroiled in a shooting incident, Harrison left Indianapolis after a Hall of Fame career and found no takers.

TO appears to be in great shape, but the negative attention he brings wherever he goes has made him persona non grata in the eyes of a lot of franchises. I’m sure someone will take the plunge and give him a deal, but he’s quickly running out of places to play.
