While 30 top golfers are competing for over $11 million in Georgia, Padraig Harrington is the lone member of the European Ryder Cup Team competing at the Vivendi Cup in Paris. Harrington’s Ryder Cup teammate, Peter Hanson of Sweden withdrew from the Vivendi on Thursday citing “a head cold, chest infection and fever.” After 36 holes, Harrington is tied for 58th, 11 shots off the lead.

Sharing the Vivendi Cup lead at -13 after two rounds are England’s John Parry (ranked 317th in the world) and Sweden’s Jarmo Sandelin (621st). Four golfers are tied for third, three shots back: France’s Julien Guerrier (357th), England’s James Morrison (149th), Australia’s Richard Green (127th), and South Africa’s George Coetzee (376th).

The top six golfers on the leaderboard carded scores in the 60s on Thursday and Friday. Harrington (22nd) had a 68 on Thursday but struggled to a 74 on Friday, making double-bogeys on the fifth and 12th holes.

Sandelin sounds confident that he can continue to hang with his higher-ranked competition:

I’ve been playing much better the last three weeks – and this week especially. I haven’t had too many bad shots this week so far, so if I can keep it going on like this, I think I will be a happy man at the end of the tournament.

Morrison, a 25-year-old Englishman, likes his own chances:

I love being in the mix. That’s where I’m going to play my best golf and every time I’ve been in contention this year, I’ve kicked on. So going into the weekend, I feel I’ve got the edge over some people. I’ve had success and I have exemptions compared to other people.
