Giants Made Afool In Fairwell Game

The New York Giants’ final game at their 34-year-old stadium was anything but a fond farewell. In fact, it was a down-right mockery.

In the last game the Giants will ever play at The Meadowlands, they were absolutely pummelled by Matt Moore and the 7-8 Carolina Panthers, who helped create one of the sadder moments in Giants franchise history with a 41-9 ass-whooping.

Moore completed 15 of 20 passes for 171 yards in just his seventh NFL start, highlighted by three touchdown passes. Jonathan Stewart rushed for a franchise-record 206 yards to push himself  over the 1,000 mark this season for the Panthers, who made a mockery of New York’s touted defense for 416 yards, including 247 on the ground. After enjoying five sacks in their 45-12 win over the Redskins last week, they managed to take Eli Manning down just once.

“We have been part of the highest of highs,” defensive end Justin Tuck said of the season. “But as far as my vantage point, this is the lowest I have been in a Giants’ uniform.”

Ouch.

So how did the Giants get on the board? Getting shut the hell out 31-0 into the third quarter, Manning threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Steve Smith and Lawrence Tynes kicked a 40-yard field goal. And that was it.

After five straight seasons in the playoffs, Eli Manning and company will be watching from the sidelines. After kicking off the season with a damn good 5-0 start, the Giants dropped seven of their last 10 to put themselves in the predicament of needing to win their final two games and cross their fingers that either Green Bay or Dallas would lose one of their remaining two.

Now, the Giants will head to Mall of America Field to take on the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday where they won’t even be able to play the spoiler since the Vikes have already clinched the NFC North.

As they say, there’s always next year.
