It’s only March and already the impending Fantasy Football season has been dealt a serious blow. Just days after inking Chester Taylor to a four-year deal, overrated Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz has declared he has not one, but two starting running backs:
“We have two starters,” Martz told Chicagobears.com… They will share carries.”
They being Taylor and last year’s fantasy bust Matt Forte. Ugh. Thanks Mike. Way to further dilute the NFL running back rankings by using the dreaded committee approach.
Split and carries might be the two most frightening words in fantasy football, excluding Browns and quarterback. By the way, since when does the geeky offensive coordinator get final say on how the totes will be divided? Isn’t that the head coach’s job, in this case, Lovie Smith?
Oh, never mind. I forgot. Lovie is a lame-duck who will get shit-canned after Chi-town starts the 2010 season 0-3. I guess it’s never too early to begin grooming his eventual replacement, which of course will be Mike Martz.
So, drop both Forte and Taylor down a notch or two. Don’t waste time trying to predict their weekly production. You’d be better off weighing the fantasy value of Rex Grossman.

I got news for you pal – some people watch and get involved in football just for football and could give a rat’s ass about fantasy points; like myself for instance, and like the Bears coaches.
Do you think anyone gives a shit how the Bears using a two back system (which is what helped them get to the superbowl in ’06) is going to effect your meaningless fantasy team?
It’s an incredibly smart move on the Bears’ part – it makes them more unpredictable, more versatile, and willl help keep the wear and tear to a minimum on both guys over the next couple of years. Sorry Martz didn’t take into account your geeky little obsession – but since I do not know a bit about fantasy football, I must ask in the first place… why in the hell would you have Forte as a fantasy back at all after last year? You don’t need Mike Martz to kill your fantasy points when you seem to be doing it just fine on your own.
That was supposed to be “Since I DO know a bit about fantasy football…”
