Linda Cohn, an anchorwoman for America’s ESPN sports network is taking an American ice arena to court over an accident she suffered while making a promotional appearance for the Hartford Wolf Pack American Hockey League (AHL) club. Cohn said she suffered a huge gash in her arm after a freak accident and it required 25 stitches to fix. Cohn hosts the television networks “Listen Closely” show and she used to play ice hockey as a goaltender for SUNY Oswego.
The 54-year-old Cohn said she showed up at the Brewster Ice Arena in Brewster, New York back in March to play with the Wolf Pack team in an exhibition promotion event. The club is the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Rangers. She says she then suffered disabling and severe injuries when a large, heavy coin changing machine fell on her. She said in her negligence lawsuit that several children were playing in the arena’s arcade area and they were responsible for the accident.
After the accident Cohn said she didn’t think it was very serious and she was looking forward to getting back in net soon, but in her lawsuit, which was filed in July, she said she continues to go through great suffering and pain on a regular basis. She added that she isn’t able to attend to all of her daily pursuits and activities and is seeking unspecified financial damages from the arena. However, Cohn returned to her job at ESPN after the incident.
The Brewster Arena claims that Cohn suffered an unfortunate freak accident, but other than that they didn’t have anything else to say when contacted by the press. Cohn was scheduled to make the promotional appearance with the team in the daytime and then planned on being a guest commentator for the Wolf Pack’s game that night. The lawsuit claims the accident occurred because the owners of the arena were negligent in their duty.
