English international striker Harry Kane of Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has said he wants to head over to America and kick for an NFL team once he’s finished with soccer. However, in the meantime he better concentrate on his present job. The 22-year-old Kane found the back of the net 31 times for Spurs last season in all competitions to lead the club and all top-tier English players in scoring. Everything he touched seemed to fly into the net and he also scored on his debut for England just minutes after entering the game as a substitute.

However, Kane and Spurs are struggling so far this season as the team is winless with three draws and a loss after their first four games of the new season and has scored just three goals. Kane has yet to score and the side is sitting in 16th place in the 20-team league. Kane doesn’t plan on giving up soccer just yet though, but he recently told the press, “It depends on how my soccer career goes. But when I’m finished, I would love to go the NFL and be a kicker. It’s a long way off yet. But it is definitely something I have thought about.”

Tottenham and the NFL have been closely linked with each other since July, when it was announced that Spurs have agreed to a new deal with the American football league. The agreement will see Spurs host several NFL games at the club’s new stadium once it has been built and opened in 2018. Kane said a couple of NFL squads have visited the team’s current stadium, White Hart Lane in London, and he has practiced kicking with them. He claims he can kick a football just as far and high as the American players and believes he’d be just as good as them with regular practice.

If Kane does indeed end up in the NFL, he won’t be the first player from another sport to do so. Australian rugby and football players have also made the transition in the past. The most notable of these is return man and running back Jarryd Hayne of the San Francisco 49ers. Most Australian imports like to give the NFL a shot since they can make more money in the league than playing rugby or football at home. Kane would likely be a different story since he can make a better living playing in the Premier League than he could do by being an NFL kicker.

Because of this, if Kane is serious about trying his luck n the NFL, it won’t happen for quite some time until his soccer career is over or because of injuries. Either way, the NFL is always trying to broaden its horizons and is already quite popular in England, where it plays two or three games each year. The news of Kane linking himself with the football league is certainly priceless exposure for the NFL in the UK and the rest of Europe.
