Enough of the NHL season has now passed us by that we can take a look at some substantial early season betting trends. Let’s take a look-see.
Dogs
Dogs have been absolutely money against the spread this year. So far, they’re 143-59 ATS. That’s a staggering .707 win percentage. Vegas has been getting its lines all wrong and they’ve clearly been giving too many goals to the favorites. Basically you could’ve bet on underdogs every game and be doing quite well for yourself. Let’s hope that this trend continues. Lay some cash on those dogs.
Bizzaro Home Teams
In addition to the already persuasive stat above, Home Dogs are even better, at 28-9 against the spread. That’s a .757 winning percentage. What it comes down to is this – find your home dogs and throw down, fast, before Vegas reacts to their own shittiness.
Conversely, home favorites are currently getting destroyed at an absolutely alarming rate. Dark jerseys giving goals are 50-115 so far this season, good for a money-losing percentage of .303. Eeeeew. Gross. For Christ’s sake, stay away.
Vegas Nailing Over/Unders
If I’m betting on hockey, I’m avoiding the over/under at all cost. So far this season, there have been 98 under games and 97 over games. Quite the even distribution. If I had to bet on the O/U I would only do so with the help of the refereeing tips I mentioned last week (more penalties = more goals and vice versa).
Isles and Thrashers???
If you’ve been stupid enough, whoa sorry, I mean SMART enough to bet significant coin on the Thrashers and Islanders this year then you’re doing well for yourself. (I’ve had to re-read these stats 6-8 times). Atlanta is 10-1 ATS, while the boys from Long Island are 11-3. Combined they’ve won bettors $1620 (based on $100 bet each game). Not too shabby for the perennial cellar dwellers of the NHL. Bet away.
