Donte Stallworth Allowed to Resume Mediocre Career

After being reinstated last Friday by Commish Roger Goodell, DUI manslaughter extraordinaire and sometimes NFL wide receiver Donte Stallworth was dumped by his last employers, the always rebuilding Cleveland Browns.

Does he deserve another shot? Sure, why not. I mean 24 days in jail and a one-year suspension from the league seems more than enough comeuppance for killing a guy with your car while completely hammered. Hey, Mike Vick got a second chance, so who am I to quibble over minor details like punishment fitting the crime and other boring legalese.

My argument against signing Stallworth has more to do with his lack of on the field ability. He’s never caught more than 70 passes or eclipsed 1000 yards in any of his seven seasons. He’s also never started 16 games in a season and has missed games due to injury in four of seven campaigns. Not exactly the model of reliability or success.

Of course this is the NFL, so he’ll find a job somewhere. Maybe the Eagles will bring him aboard, trade Donovan McNabb, then elevate Vick to the starting role. Vick to Stallworth FTW!! Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
