The end of the NBA season is right around the corner and there has been a lot of speculation about what will happen this summer when some of the league’s biggest names like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh become free agents and are available to the highest bidder.
The one player that has gotten most of the attention, and rightfully so, is LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers as he is the arguably the best all around player in the NBA right now and could easily change a playoff team into a title contender. Despite LeBron almost certainly going into this summer without signing an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, there only seems to be a handful of teams that could actually afford to sign him to the kind of money he is worth. The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and the Miami Heat look like they could be the possible destinations for the league’s leading scorer, but LeBron has yet to give any hint that he is leaning towards any of these teams.
Much like the Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones in the NFL, the Dallas Mavericks and controversial owner Mark Cuban like to throw the money around and spoil their players, so the Mavs making a play for one of the big names in the upcoming free agent market seems like a no-brainer, but apparently, Cuban and the Mavs are pretty content with their current roster and will not be pursuing any of the All-Star free agents.
Personally, this surprises me as Mark Cuban is one of those guys that will do anything to make a winner and there is no better opportunity to do just that than signing a player like Chris Bosh in the offseason, but either money is a concern or the Mavs just simply don’t believe they need another player in order to compete with the best of the best in the Western Conference.
If that is the case then the Dallas Mavericks are pretty confident that they will be a title contender in the near future. They are definitely a better team with the addition of Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood, but I don’t know if I would say they are title contenders just yet.
