The 2010 Hockey Hall of Fame class was announced Tuesday and only included one former NHL player, Dino Ciccarelli. Ciccarelli score 608 goals in a 19-season career with the Capitals, North Stars, Red Wings, Lightning and Panthers. The other two players were women’s hockey pioneers, Cammi Granato and Angela James. Eligible players who were passed over included Pavel Bure and Doug Gilmour.
Ciccarelli only spent four seasons with the Capitals after being acquired from Minnesota in in a trade that included two other Hall of Famers, Mike Gartner and Larry Murphy. Ciccarelli’s got to be one of the top five or ten best and most popular Capitals of all time. Ciccarelli will now be the fifth Cap in the Hall, joining Rod Langway and Scott Stevens.
Only Alex Ovechkin (1.29) has a better career playoff points per game for the Capitals than Ciccarelli did through four playoff runs at the old Capital Center (35 points in 32 games, 1.09).
Induction day is November 8 in Toronto.
