Perhaps teammates Nick Diaz and Gilbert Melendez had somewhere to be together after the fight. They both needed less than one round each to score KO wins and retain their respective Strikeforce titles.
Melendez was up first, and just blew through Tatsuya “Crusher” Kawajiri with ease. I’ve often said that Melendez is underrated, but I think after beating the respected Kawajiri that more and more people will be giving him props. He just destroyed a world-class fighter.
Diaz came out and immediately started with the trash talk as the ref gave pre-fight instructions. The bell sounded and Diaz then moved to talking trash via body language, taunting Daley with his arms. Diaz claims he wasn’t hurt at all by Daley, but Daley did knock him down and landed power shots. Diaz was in trouble, whether he wants to admit it or not. But Diaz prevailed with superior boxing, and Daley seems to have a suspect chin.
Mauro Ranallo recaps it the event in this highlight video.
