NBA takes 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte, North Carolina

The NBA recently announced that it will be moving next year’s annual All-Star Game from Charlotte, North Carolina as the league doesn’t agree with the state’s House Bill 2. The house bill is a controversial law which was introduced several months ago. However, the league also announced that it plans to host the All-Star Game in the city of Charlotte in 2019 and it will decide in the next few weeks where the 2017 contest will end up. It’s believed the event would have brought in approximately $100 million worth of revenue for local Charlotte area businesses next year and the game may eventually take place in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 17th.

Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady finally accepts four-game suspension

New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady has finally accepted his four-game suspension from the NFL for the “Deflategate” scandal. After a New York court denied an appeal from the NFL players’ union and Brady, he announced that he’s no longer going to try to fight the ban and will sit out the first four contests of the 2016 season. Brady was originally suspended back in May of 2015 without pay for four regular-season games for allegedly deflating the air pressure in footballs before the Patriots beat Indianapolis in the AFC championship game. It’s believed less air pressure would enable the quarterback to get a better grip on the ball in the rainy conditions the January game was played in.

NFL considers narrowing the uprights

The NFL is considering narrowing the uprights and will place computer chips the league’s footballs to help them come to a decision on the matter. The senior vice-president of officiating for the NFL, Dean Blandino, said the goal posts may be brought closer together to make it more challenging for players to kick field goals and extra points. The league announced that 85 per cent of field goal attempts have been successful over the last three years and it may be becoming a bit too easy for them. Blandino said the league will study the situation this season by placing a computer chip in the balls during the 2016 preseason schedule.
