Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto FC wins Major League Soccer MVP Award

Italian international forward Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto FC was named the most valuable player in Major League Soccer (MLS) following his first year in the league in 2015. The 28-year-old had 22 goals and 16 assists to lead the league in scoring with 38 points. His 22 goals were tied for the most in the league with forwards Kei Kamara of the Columbus Crew. The Italian also had a league-high 181 shots at net and the 38 points in a season is a new MLS record. It wasn’t a surprise to hear Giovinco was named the league’s MVP since he took home the player-of-the-week award three times during the season and the player-of-the-month trophy twice. In addition, Giovinco was named to the leagues’ Best 11 team and won the Newcomer of the Year Award.
