Packers Pound Bears 23-10 For First Win

In an early hole in just the second week of the season, the Green Bay Packers toughened up and dominated the Chicago Bears for a 23-10 home win on Thursday Night. For once, it was the Packers defense that led the way, intercepting Chicago’s Jay Cutler four times and allowing just 126 passing yards. Cutler talked pretty big in the days prior to the game, but did virtually nothing to back it up.

Did Cutler’s trash talking inspire Green Bay’s defense?  Packers safety Charles Woodson, who had one of Cutler’s four picks, wouldn’t go that far. “I don’t know if we took it personal,” said the defensive back. “But we thought it was kind of funny, that all of a sudden they were the team to beat because they got a couple of new guys. They had no answers up front.”

Which Rookie Quarterback Will Get Benched First? [Prop Bets]

Of the five rookie quarterbacks who made their NFL debut last week, only one started his career with a win — Robert Griffin III of the Redskins.  The Colts are all in on Number One pick Andrew Luck, so there’s no way he’ll be benched, but any of the other three might be told to grab some pine. So which rookie quarterback will be benched first?

Vegas says Russell Wilson of the Seahawks is the most likely, followed by Brandon Weeden of the Browns and then Ryan Tannehill of the Dolphins.

Your odds on who’ll be the first rookie quarterback to be benched (injuries don’t count):

  • Russell Wilson, Seahawks -125
  • Brandon Weeden, Browns +125
  • Ryan Tannehill, Dolphins +500

Tebow Wants Trade Already?

Will this be Tim Tebow’s only season with the New York Jets? All signs point to yes, at least according to Gary Myers of the New York Daily News who provides a juicy quote to that effect from an unnamed NFL source. The Jets certainly didn’t look like they had much need for Tebow in last week’s 48-28 home win over the Buffalo Bills.

Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez had a field day against the Bills, completing 19 of 27 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns, with only one interception.  Tebow ran the ball five times for 11 yards, with a long of just four yards.

Fun historical note from the Elias Sports Bureau: Tim Tebow is the first quarterback to start the season as a backup the year after winning a playoff game as a starter since Trent Dilfer in 2001 (not counting injuries or retirement). Jesus, no one likes being mentioned with Trent Dilfer.

Bears-Packers TNF: Jay Cutler vs. Aaron Rodgers [Prop Bets]

The first Thursday Night Game of the season is upon us, and it’s an early test of the resolve of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. If the Pack can’t win at home against Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears, Green Bay will essentially fall 2.5 games behind the Bears after just two games. We’ve already previewed the game, but it’s worth focusing on these marquee quarterbacks.

Who will play better Thursday night: Jay Cutler or Aaron Rodgers? You’d probably expect Rodgers, who was, after all, league MVP last season and Super Bowl MVP the year before that. Vegas prop bets on the two quarterbacks suggest Rodgers should throw for more yards, touchdown passes and completions than Cutler.

Check out these Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers prop bets for Thursday night’s game:

  • First TD Pass in the game? (Cutler +145, Rodgers -175)

Thursday Night NFL: Bears @ Packers It seems almost inconceivable that Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, who went 15-1 last season, could start 2012 0-2, but that's what they're facing.
