Ronda Rousey vs. Sarah Kaufman Preview

Ronda Rousey makes her first title defense against Sarah Kaufman on August 18th, live on Showtime.

While Rousey has been dominant to date in her pro career, this matchup should be different in that Kaufman is one of the best strikers in women’s MMA. She’s also a former champion with a lot of experience.

Of course, that’s on paper. No one will be shocked if Rousey gets Kaufman to the ground and submits her in the very first round.

Miesha Tate promised to take Rousey into ‘deep waters’. That didn’t happen. Can Kaufman? There’s no doubt any fighter can be knocked out. But Rousey has showed that she can take a punch, work inside for the clinch and let her judo do the rest. That’s the problem that Kaufman faces with Rousey.

USA’s Wambach Tweets Pic of Her Black Eye

USA soccer player Abby Wambach took a shot to the face in their 3-opening win, and she’s got a new souvenir to show for it.

Wambach tweeted out this pic a day after the hit.

Here’s the video of the shot:

If you’ve even followed USA soccer remotely, you know that Wambach is as tough as they come. She even scored a goal after this injury, and you can bet she’ll score some more before these Olympic games are done.

Melendez Gets Healy for Title Defense

Gilbert Melendez, STRIKEFORCE lightweight champion and top pound-for-pound fighter, will make his next title defense against veteran and red-hot number one contender Pat Healy, when STRIKEFORCE: MELENDEZ vs. HEALY comes to Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday, Sept. 29. The main event, scheduled for five rounds, will air live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

“There’s no doubt that Gilbert Melendez is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, but he’s facing a tough test when he defends the STRIKEFORCE lightweight title against Pat Healy in Sacramento,” STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker said. “Pat has been around the sport a long time and has put together an impressive winning streak. This is the biggest fight of his life and he doesn’t want to waste this opportunity.”

Panthers Center Guarantees Super Bowl In Newspaper Ad

The Carolina Panthers are going to win Super Bowl XLVII, at least according to Panthers center Ryan Kalil who took out a full-page ad in a Charlotte newspaper to announce his team’s coming championship. Oddsmakers are still skeptical and have the Panthers, who went 6-10 last season, at 35/1 odds to win their first Super Bowl in the franchise’s lackluster history.

Kalil later told the same paper that the idea came to him when he couldn’t sleep, and feel simply too big for Twitter.  “It was one of those things I was literally up all night and I was thinking about it, and just went to my computer and started writing,” said the lineman, who found he enjoyed the full-page ad medium since it “wasn’t paraphrased or restricted to 140 characters.” You can see the full, wordy text of the ad here.
