Devil Rays Hand Rangers First Series Loss of Year; Hamilton Hurt

The Tampa Bay Devils Rays beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Sunday night, becoming the first team to win a series this season against the defending American League champs by winning two of three games at Texas this weekend. The win also keeps the Devil Rays in a tie for first place in the AL East, and was Devil Rays ace David Price’s first career win against the Rangers.

Price was pleased to get that notch in his belt. “Personally, for myself, I never beat those guys,” explained the Devil Rays ace, who tied a franchise record for April wins with four. “First and foremost that feels great. I’m pumped that we won. I can turn that page now.”

Girlfight at Yankees vs. Red Sox Game!

Nothing says rivalry like Red Sox vs. Yankees. And nothing says Red Sox vs. Yankees like chicks fighting, beer being thrown on them and someone falling and bashing their head on some steel beams.

And that’s exactly what happened in this well-shot fan video.

Stanley Cup Odds: Before the Second Round

The second round of the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs begins Friday night with eight teams still fighting to hoist hockey’s most hallowed prize. The first round saw the demise of the two favorites in each conference and the defending Stanley Cup Champions, so now the favorites to win it all are the St. Louis Blues, with the New York Rangers the favorites to make the Finals out of the Eastern Conference.

Here are your 2012 Stanley Cup odds for all eight remaining NHL playoff teams:

  • 1. St. Louis Blues +375 to win the Stanley Cup, +180 to win the Western Conference – #2 seed in the West, beat the Sharks in five games; second round series against the Kings starts Saturday
  • 2. New York Rangers +450 to win the Stanley Cup, +175 to win the Eastern Conference – #1 seed in the East, beat the Senators in seven; series with the Capitals begins Saturday afternoon

Capitals Dethrone Bruins With OT Win In Game 7

The Washington Capitals eliminated the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins with a 2-1 overtime road win in Wednesday night’s decisive Game Seven of their first-round series. Just under three minutes into overtime, Washington’s Joel Ward backhanded a rebound past Boston goaltender Tim Thomas to send the Capitals into the second round and the Bruins into the offseason.

“When I saw the puck there, I just took a whack at it,” said Ward of his series-winning score. “It was a sense of relief, a great accomplishment.”

If Ward was the hero of Game Seven, the hero of the series would still have to be 22-year-old Capitals goalie Braden Holtby, who stopped 31 shots on Wednesday to finish the series with a 2.00 goals against average and a sparkling .940 saves percentage. “He’s a unique kid and nothing fazes him,” Caps head coach Dale Hunter said of Holtby. “He’s a warrior out there and that’s the best thing I can say about him … This is what hockey is all about, winning in overtime in the seventh game. This was a big character game and I’m real happy for all my guys.”
