Monday Night Football: Chargers @ Chiefs

The San Diego Chargers will need a win on Monday Night Football to stay alone in first place in the AFC West, and will face a tough road test against the Kansas City Chiefs, winners of three straight. The Chargers are three- to 3.5-point favorites (-155 to -170 if you prefer the money line), but a loss at Arrowhead Stadium would drop them into a three-way tie for first with the Chiefs and Raiders.

The Chargers narrowly beat the Chiefs in San Diego in Week 3, winning 20-17 but failing to cover as 14-point home favorites. While San Diego is 4-2 overall, they’re just 2-4 against the spread this year, while the Chiefs at 3-3 in the standing are 4-2 ATS.

Vick, Eagles Run All Over Cowboys in 34-7 Primetime Rout

The Philadelphia Eagles finally looked like the Dream Team they were hyped up to be before the season on Sunday night when they got their first home win of the season in a convincing 34-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The statement win by the Eagles puts both teams at 3-4 and in a three-way tie for second place in the NFC East, two games behind the New York Giants.

Ironically, new Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, the son of legendary former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan and brother of vociferous Jets coach Rex Ryan, had said during training camp that the Eagles were over-hyped and promised the Cowboys would “beat their ass.” Rob didn’t back off his comments in the leadup to Sunday night’s game, saying “If they need my motivation to get ready to play us, then we’re going to kick their ass anyway.”

McIlroy Wins $2 Million For Playoff Victory At Shanghai Masters

Rory McIlroy beat Anthony Kim with a par on the first playoff hole to win the Shanghai Masters and its $2 million top prize, the richest in all of golf. McIlroy entered the final round with a three-shot lead, and missed an eight-foot birdie putt on the last hole that would have given him the victory without the hassle of laying one more hole.

The 22-year-old from Northern Ireland felt it was a step forward in his career that he could still nail down a win on a day when he wasn’t playing his best golf. “It’s something that I feel like I can still get better at is winning and putting yourself in the position to win when you’re not playing your best,” said McIlroy, who turned in an even-par final round to end the tournament at 18-under. “Even if it’s scrappy golf where you grind it out, you’re going to win a lot more tournaments by doing that rather than playing your best golf the whole week. I was very happy I was able to pull this one out.”

Ben Askren Retains Bellator Title

Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben “Funky” Askren successfully defended his belt against Tournament Champion Jay Hieron  and Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos both advanced to the Finals of the Bellator Heavyweight Tournament with first round finishes.

Hieron began the title fight with an impressive opening round, defending against Askren’s takedowns and controlling the pace. Askren got off to a slow start but warmed up as the fight went on, as his takedowns prevailed in the second, third, and fourth rounds. Hieron sensed he was down heading into the fifth and final round, and came out with heavy hands, including a crowd igniting spinning back kick to the chest of Askren, barking at him and taunting him. However, when it came time to raise the winner’s hand, one judge saw the fight in favor of Hieron while the other two sided with Askren, 48-47. Askren now awaits the winner of the Season 5 Welterweight Tournament, which will be decided at Bellator 57 in a Finals fight between Ben Saunders and Douglas Lima.
