Nobody calls a fight like “The Voice”, Michael Schiavello. Along with Frank Trigg, “The Voice” was on the call for this fight between UFC vet Pete Spratt and Antonio Flores from Legacy Fighting Championship 7. His call matches the fireworks in the cage.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays finally pulled even with the Boston Red Sox for the American League’s final playoff spot on Monday. After the Devil Rays won at home against the New York Yankees and the Red Sox lost at Baltimore, both teams control their own destinies with just two games left in the regular season. The Red Sox had a nine-game lead earlier this month.
If the Red Sox and Devil Rays end the season with the same record, a one-game playoff would be played Thursday afternoon at Tampa’s historic Tropicana Field.
On Tuesday, the Red Sox face Orioles rookie lefthander Zach Britton, and counter with Erik Bedard, who couldn’t make it through three innings against the Orioles at Fenway last Tuesday. Jeremey Hellickson, who held the Yankees to two runs over seven innings in his last start, will be on the mound for the Devil Rays, while the Yankees will start Bartolo Colon, who got tagged by Tampa for seven runs in just three innings in his last time out.
Coach Rex Ryan may have led the New York Jets to back-to-back conference championship games, but Broadway Joe Namath still won the only Super Bowl in franchise history over 40 years ago and he has some concerns after seeing Rex’s boys lose their first game of the season against the Oakland Raiders. Not surprisingly, Rex ain’t having any of it.
The day after the 34-24 road loss, Namath went on the Michael Kay Show speculating that the Jets are suffering from Rex-instilled overconfidence:
There’s one thing about the athlete, you keep telling him how good he is, he’s going to start believing it to the point that he may not be preparing quite the way he should. He may be losing some respect for the other team. I think these guys might be believing that they’re better than they are. Rex has been the only coach that we know, in maybe the history of the game that I’m familiar with, that keeps continually telling his guys how good they are. And they have been pretty good — pretty good — but they haven’t won a championship yet. I think they’ve got to remember that there’s room for improvement.
On Sunday, Tiger Woods announced he had hired the third caddie of his career, Joe LaCava, who carried clubs this year for Dustin Johnson after two decades working for Fred Couples. The announcement on Tiger’s website stressed that LaCava approached Tiger first, while also stating Tiger let LaCava break the news to Johnson before talking to his Ryder Cup teammate.
Butch Harmon, Tiger’s former swing coach who now works for Johnson, had some catty things to say about Tiger’s handling of the situation. “The thing that bothered me the most was T.W. not calling Dustin and asking if he could talk to Joe,” Harmon said. “That’s the way it’s done. I’m a little disappointed with the way Tiger handled it. But I’m not surprised.”
