The GSP vs. Anderson Silva Superfight is Coming

Two of the most anticipated MMA fights both involve Georges St. Pierre. The first is his matchup against Nick Diaz at UFC 137, where GSP will try to defend his UFC welterweight title. If he wins that bout, you’d have to think that Dana White will give the fans what they have long been pining for: the Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva superfight.

It will be a battle between two of the all-time greats in the sport, and it would undoubtedly become the highest selling UFC pay-per-view of all-time. Are we talking Ali vs. Frazier, that kind of epicness? I think we are.

Hendo vs. Fedor was huge. It was two legends finally meeting in the cage. But Hendo is 40 and Fedor has clearly seen better days. It would have been one of the greatest fights ever — if it happened 6-10 years ago. Now people are just glad they saw it happen. But no one will talk about it much, at least in terms of it being a legendary fight.

San Francisco 49ers Agree To Contract Extension With Frank Gore

The San Francisco 49ers are an extremely talented football team with multiple Pro Bowl caliber players with bright futures, but they just haven’t been able to pull it together over the past few seasons and as a result have been labeled a perennial underachiever. That distinction might change after this season as things are looking promising in the Bay Area with new head coach Jim Harbaugh calling the shots and the addition of wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the offensive arsenal.

Despite being a disappointing football team over the past few years, the one bright spot for the San Francisco 49ers has been in the backfield with two-time Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore. Even though he has been a bit injury prone at times during his stint with the 49ers, Gore is arguably one of the best running backs in the league and needed to be paid that way or sent packing. Fortunately for the 28-year-old, the 49ers decided to hold on to him and give him a three-year contract extension.

Could the Tennessee Titans Be Forced to Trade Chris Johnson?

Over the past couple of years, the Tennessee Titans have had one of the best ground games in the NFL with superstar running back Chris Johnson leading the way out of the backfield. There is no question at this point in his NFL career that Johnson is one of the best running backs in the league with about three to five years left playing at a high level for the Titans, but struggling Tennessee franchise which could be on the verge of a rebuilding process might be forced to do something they don’t want to do.

Recently some of the best players in the league agreed on lucrative contract extensions with their current teams like four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts), wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals), Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore (San Francisco 49ers) and superstar gunslinger Michael Vick (Philadelphia Eagles), but there are still a few star players looking to cash in before their contract expires like quarterback Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) and running back Chris Johnson.

McIlroy Favored Over Westwood: 2011 Omega European Masters

The second leg of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup playoffs doesn’t get started until Friday because of Labor Day weekend, but some of the best golfers in the world will be teeing off Thursday at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland. US Open champion Rory McIlroy is the slight betting favorite at 8/1, just ahead of World No. 2 Lee Westwood at 9/1. Germany’s Martin Kaymer is next at 16/1.

McIlroy will be playing in his first event since injuring his wrist at the PGA Championship earlier this month, but insists he’s fine and roaring to go. “I’m feeling good,” said the 22-year-old phenom. “I had two weeks of rest. I hit balls three times last week in the United States which was fine. I felt it after about 45 minutes of hitting balls and got a bit of treatment on my wrist.  I practised for an hour and played nine holes yesterday. Its fine, I’m going to get a little bit of treatment for about 15 to 20 minutes later and do some more practice. It feels like it is nearly a 100 percent.”
