With the NFL lockout now officially over and the league getting back to business as usual, the rumors have started flying around about free agents, potential trades and big-name players possible making their way back to the gridiron.
Over the past half decade or so, the summer time has been Brett Favre frenzy as the three-time NFL MVP has been on the fence about retiring from the game of football. Once the Green Bay Packers wanted to put Aaron Rodgers under center as their main man, Brett Favre was ready to go and landed with the New York Jets. After one disappointing season with the Jets, the Favre saga headed to Minnesota to play one amazing season and one extremely disappointing season.
The lovely and talented Gina Carano may no longer be the face of women’s MMA, but she just may be the female Jason Bourne. The trailer for her new film “Haywire” was released recently, and Gina was at Comic-con to rep the pic. Here’s an interview from that appearance.
On Sunday, Sean O’Hair beat fellow American Kris Blanks in a one-hole playoff to win the RBC Canadian Open and claim his fourth career PGA Tour title and his first win in over two years. It was a welcome turnaround for O’Hair who has struggled most of the year, missing 10 of his last 17 cuts, including a narrow miss at the British Open the week before, and coming to Vancouver looking for his first top 15 finish of the year.
O’Hair shot a final round four-under 68 to get into the playoff, but his final day was not without its nerve-racking moments. “There is not one second I’m not feeling like I’m going to just puke,” O’Hair admitted. But he held it in and Blanks blinked first, missing a bogey putt of just over five feet on the first playoff hole to give O’Hair the victory.
Tampa Bay Devil Rays pitcher James Shields was masterful on Thursday night as he outpitched New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia in a 2-1 win at historic Tropicana Field. The Devil Rays never trailed after slugger Evan Longoria homered in the second inning on a 1-1 slider. The loss dropped the Yankees two games behind the idle Boston Red Sox in the AL East standings.
Sabathia, who tied a season-high with four walks, blamed himself for the loss, knowing he had to be perfect to beat a pitcher as good as Shields. “Two mistakes by me and that cost us the game,” said Sabathia, referring to the Longoria homer and an RBI triple he gave up to No. 9 hitter Sam Fuld in the fifth inning.
