Bubba Watson Tied for Lead at Zurich Classic

American Bubba Watson shot a 6-under 66 during the first round of the Zurich Classic in New Orleans to share the lead with Australian Matt Jones. Bubba would have been alone atop the leaderboard but Jones finished his round with a 57-foot chip in for birdie. David Duval and Sweden’s Carl Pettersson were among six golfers tied for third, one shot back of the leaders.

Bubba felt a little rusty in his first tournament since The Masters three weeks ago, and he started slowly with a bogey. He said he felt his groove coming back on the second hole, when he made birdie despite putting his tee shot into a fairway bunker. “It got me fired up,” Bubba said of his recovery on the second hole. The highlight of his round though was an eagle on No. 11, thanks to a 343-foot drive and a 32-foot putt.

Derek Lowe Arrested for DUI

The Atlanta Braves had an off day on Thursday, so pitcher Derek Lowe allegedly spent his night off driving around drunk in his Porsche. Lowe was stopped around 10 pm, given a field sobriety test and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and failing to maintain lane. He was taken to the Atlanta City Jail, where he was released on $2,944 bail on Friday morning.

According to a Georgia State Police email, the arresting officer “detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.” Lowe refused to take a breathalyzer. The pitcher’s Porsche was impounded.

So far the Braves, who were occupied Thursday with backlash from their pitching coach allegedly getting into a nasty verbal altercation with Giants fans in San Francisco last weekend, haven’t commented on Lowe’s arrest.

Video of Lowe coming out of jail on Friday morning is up on the CBS Atlanta website.

Canucks Edge Predators 1-0 in Game 1

After an epic and emotional first round series that ended with an overtime Game 7 win two nights ago, the Vancouver Canucks showed little signs of fatigue or letdown in a workmanlike 1-0 victory in the first game of their second round series at home against the Nashville Predators. The Canucks, owners of the NHL’s best regular season record, outshot the West’s No. 5 seed by a 30-20 margin.

Chris Higgins provided the game’s only goal at 12:14 of the second period, beating Nashville’s Pekka Rinne. Through two periods, the Canucks outshot the Predators 26-11, and Rinne felt his team’s start was way below its usual standards. “Obviously we respect their team, it’s a good hockey team but we just didn’t have it for the first two periods,” he explained. “Somehow we just didn’t have the jump.”

Celebs and Fighters Pick UFC 129 Winners

UFC 129 is tomorrow night in Toronto. It has definitely been one of the most hyped UFC events in some time. Even UFC prez Dana White stated how extremely excited he is for this card. Celebs and sports figures weighed in with their picks.

SHANE VICTORINO, Gold Glove Centerfielder from the Philadelphia Phillies

Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS

“I’m gonna have to say ‘Rush’ is the favorite, but I won’t put it past Shields for an upset victory. Shields by submission!”

ARIEL HELWANI, MMA reporter, MMAFighting.com and Versus.com

Prediction: GEORGES ST-PIERRE

“Shields is as tough as they come, but I just can’t see him taking this fight to the ground, which is where he needs it to be. Even if he does score the odd takedown, he won’t be able to dominate GSP on the mat like he has against his previous opponents. GSP wins all five rounds due to superior striking and his solid takedown defense en route to a unanimous decision victory.”
