UFC: Now in 3D!

The Ultimate Fighting Championship and VERSUS announced today that the UFC event airing this Thursday, March 3, will be broadcast in 3D for the first-time ever. The highly-anticipated card, which is headlined by a welterweight clash between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann, emanates from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky. and will air live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

The 3D telecast, produced by VERSUS with the UFC and sponsored by Comcast Xfinity, will feature a separate 3D production crew and equipment from the traditional HD production. The telecast will also include a separate announce team, as veteran play-by-play voice Todd Harris will team up with UFC featherweight star Kenny Florian to call all of the night’s action.

Multiple 3D cameras will be placed strategically around the Octagon, giving viewers access to some new camera angles not usually seen during previous UFC 2D telecasts.  The 3D telecast will be made available live to those with 3D-capable television sets through dedicated 3D channels on affiliates across the country, including Comcast’s 24-hour, Next Generation Xfinity 3D channel.

Sidney Rice Wants to Test Free Agent Market

The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly offered wide receiver Sidney Rice a long-term contract, but his agent says Rice won’t sign before testing the free agent waters. How soon Rice can do that and if he will be a restricted or unrestricted free agent all depends on when the NFL and the players union can agree on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

NFL free agency is supposed to begin Friday, but if the sides can’t agree on a CBA, the owners will lock out the players and free agency will be on hold until a new agreement is reached. Rice has played four seasons in the NFL, all with the Vikings, and his restricted/unrestriced status will be determined by the new CBA.

Bruins Win Fifth Straight in Edmonton

Sunday night in Edmonton, the Boston Bruins won their fifth straight game, all on the road to open a six-game road trip. The Northeast Division-leading Bruins fell behind early in the first, then got three unanswered goals and held on for a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers, who own the worst record in the NHL. Recently acquired Rich Peverley scored his first goal with the Bruins with 52 seconds left in the second period to give Boston a two-goal lead.

“This trip has been a great opportunity for us to introduce our new players to the hockey club by being on the road,” said Boston coach Claude Julien. “The timing was good. We’ve got a better record on the road than we do at home. We seem to play some really good, smart games on the road. Hopefully we can carry that back to Boston and be a little bit better there.”
