MMA is not as crazy as pro (fake) wrestling when it comes to the amount of absurd moves and the names of those moves, but they certainly have some. Some are intentional. Some…not so much. So tell me what’s going on here when UFC fighter Diego Sanchez decides to do an oil check on Paulo Thiago. If you are not familiar with the terminology, then just watch this gif a few times and I think you’ll get it. Unless Diego was giving out free, in-fight prostate exams, this is definitely an oil check.
Watching that over and over is mildly disturbing. So let’s move on to another weird move. This one happened back in the Pride days with Mark Hunt taking on Wanderlei Silva.
The Washington Capitals weathered a late storm to stay atop the Eastern Conference standings. The Carolina Hurricanes Eric Staal beat Capitals goalie Semyon Varlamov with just 2.2 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but Varlamov was perfect in the shootout. Superstar Alexander Ovechkin scored the only shootout goal to give the Capitals a 3-2 victory on home ice.
“It’s a big win for us,” Ovechkin said. “It’s pretty bad they scored in the last two seconds but it is what it is.” The Capitals dominated the first period, outshooting the Hurricanes 17-7 and taking a 2-0 lead. Marcus Johansson opened the scoring with his third goal of the season, and Alexander Semin added his 18th with an assist from Ovechkin.
The Hurricanes fought back after intermission, with Eric Cole scoring 50 seconds into the second period, with an assist from Staal. Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward stopped 38 of 40 shots in the game, while Varlamov turned away 26 of the 28 shots he faced.
Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a “foot sprain” during his team’s lucky overtime win over the 2-9 Buffalo Bills, according to Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. The quarterback played the rest of the game with the sprain, but will undergo tests Monday to make sure he’s ready for next Sunday night’s showdown against the Baltimore Ravens that may determine who wins the AFC North.
With Baltimore easily beating a solid Tampa Bay Buccaneers team on Sunday, the Steelers and Ravens are tied for first in the division with 8-3 records. Since the Ravens already beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh in Week 4, the last game the Steelers played before Roethlisberger returned from suspension for being a probable rapist and perhaps serial rapist, the Ravens would take a virtual two-game lead in the division if they can beat the Steelers at home on Sunday.
