Time: 8:20 pm EST

Point Spread: Pick’Em

Preview: In a huge Sunday Night affair, the Pittsburgh Steelers will invade the Big Easy, to take on the New Orleans Saints. Pittsburgh comes in tied with the Jets and Patriots for the best record in all of the NFL. The Steelers were fortunate to leave Miami last week with a win after a controversial call went Pittsburgh’s way late in the game. Rashard Mendenhall has anchored the Pittsburgh offense, with 532 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. The Steelers are just ½ game ahead of the Baltimore Ravens for the top spot in the AFC North.

NFL Week 8 Picks: Minnesota Vikings vs. New England Patriots

Minnesota Vikings (2-4) @ New England Patriots (5-1)

Time: 4:15 pm EST

Point Spread: New England Patriots -5.5

Over/Under Line: 44.5

Preview: The biggest news regarding the Minnesota Vikings this week has been the health of quarterback Brett Favre. Favre is doubtful to start in their week 8 game on Sunday. What the Vikings are not discussing is their 2-4 record, staring into a game against the New England Patriots. Already 1.5 games behind Chicago and Green Bay in the division, Minnesota is in need of a win. If Favre does not play, Tavaris Jackson is expected to be the starting quarterback. Minnesota may also turn heavily to running back Adrian Peterson. The running back out of Oklahoma has run for 684 yards and 5 touchdowns through 6 games.

English Premier League fans tired of getting ripped off

For the quality of football, prices to games in the English Premier League aren’t too bad, especially when compared to the prices of some MLS teams such as Toronto FC. However, fans are tired of paying for other items related to the game, such as team kits that seem to change every other year.

A recent study said about half of EPL fans said they won’t be spending as much on souvenirs this season as they usually do. A total of 4,000 Premier League supporters were surveyed and the results showed that 42 per cent supporters will be bypassing things such as programmes, jerseys, and general club items.

The clubs that are going to be hit the hardest appear to be Birmingham, Blackburn, and Bolton as about 52 per cent of Bolton and Birmingham supporters are planning on spending less and along with 49 per cent of Blackburn fans. Chelsea will also notice a drop in profits as 48 per cent of their supporters also said they will be thriftier with their money.

Going Overboard with MMA and Kids in Canada

Someone in Canada has done lost their mind. How else can you explain this situation: children being allowed to employ “Ground and Pound” in a kids MMA tournament. From the National Post, via Mixed Martial Arts:

“A veteran mixed martial arts coach says he had to stop several children from being held down and punched in the head at a recent tournament, after new rules were introduced allowing youngsters to engage in “ground and pound.”

Organizers of a tournament last weekend in Burnaby, B.C., included a new division that allowed children to be hit in the head once they are on the ground, despite rules prohibiting that level of violence. Competitors wear protective headgear.

Previously, hits to the head were permitted only when children were on their feet.
