Early Tuesday morning, Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson was arrested in Austin and charged with assaulting a bar bouncer on May 30. While Benson could face up to a year in jail, ESPN’s Adam Shefter said a league source described the incident as minor.
According to the arrest affidavit, Benson was involved in a late night bar fight when employees broke up the fight. The running back allegedly injured his lip in the fight and spat blood at a bar employee, and once escorted outside allegedly said “All these white boys are ganging up on me and kicking me out.”
According to the police report, a bar bouncer heard that and egged Benson on with “I’m going to take time out of my busy job to kick you out?” Benson allegedly responded by punching the bouncer with a right hand, which knocked the smart-mouthed punk back but not down.
The 2010 NBA free agent madness will begin in less than 48 hours and with July 1st just around the corner, the rumors have really started to swirl around the league with big-names like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh being the three players getting mentioned the most.
It is no secret up to this point that LeBron, Wade and Bosh are by far the most desired free agents in this upcoming free agent market, but even though all three of these NBA superstars would be welcome additions to any team in the league, only a handful of teams will be in contention to sign them come July 1st.
Most people believe that at least two of these three big-name free agents will end up with new teams this summer and in my opinion that sounds about right as I can definitely see LeBron James and Chris Bosh heading elsewhere while Dwyane Wade stays in Miami, but after this past weekend, all three of these big-name free agents might all end up with the Heat.

The Boston Bruins signed 42-year-old Mark Recchi to a one-year $1.7 million deal so he can babysit/mentor the team’s young stars, including number two overall pick Taylor Seguin. Last season Recchi scored 18 regular season goals and six in the playoffs, but cited Boston’s historic collapse against the Flyers as a motivation for coming back. “There was some unfinished business,” said Recchi. “I have never been so disappointed, to end the way we did.”
Bruins’ general manager Peter Chiarelli mainly focused on Recchi as babysitter:
He’s looking forward to helping the younger kids. He can manage their expectations, manage their lifestyles and all that. It’s a group effort, but someone like Mark who has done it and has done it successfully will be an asset to our team.
Recchi, with perhaps half an eye on a coaching career, says he’s all sorts of excited to play big brother to Boston’s top pick:
