Phil Jackson Will Coach Lakers Next Season

This season the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers have high hopes of repeating as NBA champs and as of right now things are looking good, but once the playoffs begin, Kobe Bryant and company will have their work cut out for them against teams like the Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets.

It is obviously still very uncertain how well the Lakers will fair in the playoffs this time around, but besides trying to repeat as NBA champs, the Lakers have also been concerned about two things this offseason. The first of which is signing Kobe Bryant to contract extension, which he has been reluctant to do, but he has said he has no intentions of going anywhere else.

The other priority of the Lakers this offseason is keeping Phil Jackson on the bench for another season as he has been contemplating retirement for the past couple of years.

Will Yao Ming Test Free Agency?

Back in 2002, when 7’6″ center Yao Ming was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft, the NBA saw its first Chinese superstar in the league and it looked like times were a changing.

Even though Yao has played pretty well in his time in the US as a member of the Houston Rockets, the one big problem that has faced the enormous Chinese center has been constant injuries that have kept him on the sidelines.

When Yao Ming is in the lineup for Houston, the Rockets are amongst the best teams in the league and a scary sight for any opposing defense. Unfortunately, Yao hasn’t been in the lineup enough over the years to actually have a significant impact and lead the Rockets to title contender status in the Western Conference.

Is Felix Jones Ready to Breakout?

One of the bigger teases in the NFL the last two seasons was Cowboys running back Felix Jones. Blessed with a wealth of explosiveness and natural playmaking ability, Felix has the potential to be one of the best backs in the league. Coming off a strong finish to the 2009 season, owner/pseudo head coach Jerry Jones is considering elevating Felix to the number one runner in Big D.

Incumbent Marion Barber has logged a lot of carries and abuse over the last three seasons. His punishing style isn’t conducive to longevity and with Jones poised to explode, it might be the right time to make a switch.

NBA Betting Free Picks For Saturday: Running of the Bulls

A short card of NBA betting options for Saturday but we’ll take a position on a game between Eastern Conference bottom feeders New Jersey and Chicago.  I guess the Bulls aren’t *technically* bottom feeders since they’re only 2 games out of a playoff spot in the weak East (were they playing in the West they’d be at least 10 games out of the postseason) but they’ve been playing like a lottery team of late, losing 8 of their L10.  The Nets will finish with the NBA’s worst record, but are determined to not become an all time doormat.  They’ve won two straight and just need one more win to escape the ignominious fate of being the worst team in NBA history.  The Nets aren’t much, but I do like their dancers who I think were all extras on ‘The Sopranos’ where they appeared as dancers at the ‘Bada Bing’:

George Karl Out Until Playoffs for Denver Nuggets There are only ten games left in the NBA regular season for the Denver Nuggets and there is still a good chance that they can hold off the Dallas Mavericks for the second seed in the West, but it will be interesting to see how things pan out as the Nuggets try to find a way to win without George Karl leading the way.

Lakers and Cavs Keep Winning Streaks Alive This NBA season has been yet another successful one for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers as both of these title contenders will almost certainly head into the playoffs as the top teams in the East and West.
