Not to toot my own horn, but you people have it pretty good. Most websites would offer up some half assed excuse for a sports betting and handicapping expert like ESPN does with Chad Millman but SPORTS UNTAPPED spared no effort and expense in bringing their readers a serious thinking professional sports gambling icon. And one thing I insisted on during the prolonged contract negotiations with the Sports Untapped team is that I be able to tell it like it is and not treat you people like idiots or ‘marks’.
Kind of a strange day from a sports betting perspective as there’s a lot of games on the board–particularly in college hoops–but not a lot of value opportunities in my opinion. We do have at least one NHL hockey betting opportunity worth looking at, and we’ll head to Edmonton, Alberta as the Oilers host the St. Louis Blues. Edmonton is officially the worst team in the NHL with 38 points on the year. The Blues, meanwhile, aren’t a bad hockey team and are at least within ‘spitting distance’ of the playoffs. St. Louis is in 13th place in the Western Conference but just 5 points out of the final playoff spot. They’ve got a good opportunity for back to back victories with tonight’s game and an upcoming home game against Columbus. Since I couldn’t find any St. Louis Blues Ice Girl pictures to accompany this post the Russian KHL hockey team Dynamo Minsk graciously volunteered one of theirs. Maybe its my weakness for Eastern European women, but the Russians are sure doing this ice girl thing right…
Over at The Dagger, Matt Norlander discusses the NCAA basketball Player of the Year award, and his subjects are Evan Turner and John Wall. As a UK fan, I, for one, support the idea of John Wall winning, and I’m a learned enough fan of college basketball to recognize what Turner brings to the table. How can you not?
However, there’s perhaps one more player that should be mentioned in this discussion, and with no offense to Luke Harangody, The player I’m talking about is Villanova’s Scottie Reynolds.
Why does Reynolds deserve mention here? For one, he’s the best player on a team that could very well find themselves on top the of the college basketball polls after this weekend is over. Not only that, but — Michigan State and UConn’s roster notwithstanding — he’s one of the only players on this year’s group of top teams who has Final Four experience, which stands out to the Rush The Court fellows as well.
Huston Street and the Colorado Rockies finalized their three-year, $22.5 million contract negotiations Wednesday. The deal could be worth up to $31 million over four seasons, including a $9 million option for 2013 with a $500,000 buyout if the club decides they can do better.
“We want to stay together,” he said. “Everybody believes in what we’ve got going here. We’ve got a good thing going here.”
Street said he feels “great” and is pumped to be the anchor of the Rockies bullpen. He says the guys on the team are the reason he signed, and that they have an abundance of “chemistry and camaraderie.”
The 26-year-old closer missed out on the final month of the regular season with sore pipes, but claims that had nothing to do with his giant postseason failure. Street went 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA and a blown save in three 2009 postseason appearances, crushing his club’s Rocktober dreams.
