A good place to start is with a couple of articles that cover some theoretical betting advice for betting the big game. This information will not only help make you some money and is valuable knowledge to file away in your brain for future reference. Later this week we’ll have a full analysis and my betting suggestions for the side and total. Before that we’ll delve into the countless proposition bets offered by various sportsbooks.
The Detroit Tigers have been discussing a contract extension with Justin Verlander for some time now, with the team more or less settled on offering five years for $75 million.
Verlander, on the other hand, wants the security of a sixth season, which would spike the number up into the $95 million range. He is currently scheduled to go to arbitration with the hopes of a $9.5 million salary in 2010 with Detroit counter-offering a whopping $6.9 million.
A slap in the face? Quite possibly.
The soon-to-be 27-year-old who captured the 2006 AL Rookie of the Year award, went 19-9 last season over a league-leading 240 innings with 269 strikeouts. He also impressed by finishing third in American League Cy Young voting behind Seattle’s Felix Hernandez and winner Zack Greinke of the Kansas City Royals.
Over at my other site, I’ve introduced a little meme about the best dunkers in college basketball play for small schools. It all started with a preseason post over at Storming the Floor, and now that the 2010 season is progressing nicely, small school dunkers are all over the place.
Names like Aaron Thompson (Cal State Fullerton), Tavaris Washington (Arkansas Pine Bluff), Chris Wright (Dayton) and Paul George (Fresno State) have almost become common. However, there’s another small-school dunker I’ve come across that deserves some attention: Kevin Ford of Oral Roberts University. According to his bio, Ford began his career at New Mexico State before transferring to ORU. He’s currently a junior who averages 12 points, 8 boards while shooting 54% from the field.
The Minnesota Twins kicked off their annual winter TwinsFest Friday without one important ingredient: that pesky contract extension for All-Star catcher Joe Mauer. However, the club is optimistic that last season’s AL MVP will ink a new deal before the start of Spring Training.
The contract is going to be a whopper for sure, and manager Ron Gardenhire is looking forward to it.
“I’ll be happy when he does sign. He can buy me a beer. Probably two. Maybe three,” he chuckled.
Mauer is making $12.5 million this season in the last year of his current contract. He’ll be eligible for free agency in the fall if no new deal is struck, which is the last thing anyone in Minnesota wants to see happen. The 26-year-old hometown hero says he “feels like a broken record” when talking about his extension, and doesn’t want the hype to become a “distraction” to the team.
Longtime MMA fans are very familiar with TapouT and everything they have done for the sport. Some new fans might just know the name as a brand they often see on t-shirts. But as seen in this video, the history of TapouT is a unique and inspirational story. Here is an interview with Dan "Punkass" Caldwell from Forbes.
