There was only one major injury in week seven to the Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley, but honestly the Redskins weren’t going anywhere so the injury to their star tight end doesn’t really affect the team as much as it would it they were actually in contention in the NFC East.
It was thought at first went Cooley went down against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football in week seven that he would be out for the season, but now it is being reported that he could possibly recover from his ankle injury and might be able to play a month from now. Like I said though, the Cooley injury isn’t all that significant considering that the Redskins are arguably one of the worst teams in the NFL this season.
Here are the other notable injuries going into week eight:
The game of the week is without doubt the Minnesota Vikings heading into Lambeau Field to face against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in Brett Favre’s return to his old home for the first time in another uniform, but it is not the game you want to put your money on this weekend.
Along with Favre’s return to Lambeau there is the NFC South showdown between the undefeated New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons and NFC East battle between the Philadelphia Eagles and their hated rivals in the New York Giants, but once again these are games that could easily go either way and not worth taking a chance on.
NFL Locks of the Week
Dallas Cowboys -10.5 over the Seattle Seahawks
Jayson Werth should really do something about that squirrel hanging out on his chin. Just a thought.
The New York Yankees’ bats finally woke up for Game 2 of the World Series Thursday night with a 3-1 win over the reigning world champion Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phils worked with a 1-0 lead for an inning thanks to a Matt Stairs RBI double in the top of the second, but it looked as though this game would turn out to be a pitcher’s duel after all with A.J. Burnett striking out batters left and right. The right-hander fanned nine over seven solid innings with a couple walks and four hits.
But leading off the fourth, Mark Teixeira — in a pretty terrible postseason slump coming into the game (8-for-44, .182) — nailed a solo shot off Pedro Martinez, tying it up at a run a piece. Hideki Matsui then put New York ahead with two outs in the sixth, reaching way down below his knees to drive a curveball into the right field seats.
NBA Betting Power Rankings
30. Memphis Grizzlies
Get out your ten foot pole. I wouldn’t touch them without some real signs of early-season life.
29. Minnesota Timberwolves
No Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love is injured. Bet against them if you can get any kind of odds.
28. Sacramento Kings
Nice infusion of youth to add to Kevin Martin’s scoring prowess. But they’re still going to be brutal.
27. New York Knicks
David Lee is their best player. Next.
26. Milwaukee Bucks
They should’ve hired Bill Simmons as GM. Brandon Jennings should be fun to watch. But don’t waste your money.
25. Charlotte Bobcats
Speaking of Simmons, he wrote that coach Larry Brown asked a friend of Michael Jordan’s to tell him that he wanted to talk to him. Brown works for Jordan. That’s a shitty organization.
