The Cleveland Cavaliers have been trying desperately to upgrade their squad over the past couple of seasons in an attempt to keep superstar LeBron James in a Cavs uniform for the foreseeable future.

This past offseason the Cavs traded for future hall of fame center Shaquille O’Neal from the Phoenix Suns in order to be able to contain Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic come playoff time and possibly convince LeBron James to stay in Cleveland for the long term, even though Shaq probably won’t be around much longer.

With Shaq probably being not enough to convince LeBron to stay before he becomes a free agent for the first time in his NBA career this summer, the Cleveland Cavaliers decided to make something happen before the NBA’s February 18th trade deadline and that they did by making arguably the most significant trade before the deadline with the Washington Wizards to bring in versatile forward Antawn Jamison.

The Cavs had their sights set on making another trade for with the Phoenix Suns to bring Amare Stoudemire to Cleveland, but the Suns didn’t like what the Cavs or any other team were offering and decided to keep Amare for at least the rest of the this season.

Another team that made a pretty big splash before the trade deadline this past month was the Dallas Mavericks who were able to acquire Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson from the Washington Wizards in exchange for forwards Josh Howard and Drew Gooden.

The trade was a considerable upgrade for the Mavericks as they may have become title contenders in the Western Conference once again, but with arguably the most talented free agent market in NBA history coming up this summer it is almost guaranteed that Mavs owner Mark Cuban will try to bring another big name free agent to Dallas to play alongside Dirk Nowitzki.

The one player that everyone will be going after this summer is LeBron James, but few teams have the money or the kind of opportunity that arguably the most talented player in the league will be looking for.

The only way the Dallas Mavericks will be able to bring in LeBron will be some sort of sign-and-trade deal as they have one of the most desirable contracts in the league with center Erik Dampier’s $13 million which isn’t guaranteed and can be dropped.

LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks is a stretch, but with Mark Cuban calling the shots in Dallas, I believe the Mavericks will looking to drastically improve their roster this summer.

Wow, that was a stupid article. Yes, the Mavs want to upgrade. Sign and trade for LeBron with Dampier’s contract????

  2. Chris says:

Goddamn, do any of you read before you comment? Even Ryan himself said the idea was a stretch and using Dampier’s contract is perahps the only way they can make it happen.

Does that mean any of the following are true:

The Cavs would make that deal?

LeBron would want to go to Dallas?

Your response needs to be as asshole-ish as possible to make the same point Ryan himself made?

No. None of the above are true, but yet, you came through with flying colors. Way to not disappoint, dude.

Reading articles before you comment on them takes all of the fun out of being an uninformed blowhard…

Cleveland would also receive Caron Butler and probably a few other players, picks and cash. They would possibly be able to dump one bad contract on the mavs as well.
