Colts Remain Undefeated

The Indianapolis Colts have extended their NFL-record winning streak to 23 games, becoming just the third 14-0 team in league history.

Peyton Manning was lights-out in his team’s 35-31 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, throwing for 308 yards and four touchdowns, including one 65-yard bomb to Reggie Wayne that put the Colts in command for good. Just to make things extra exciting, there were ten lead changes and possibly nine heart attacks in the NFL Network-viewing area.

Indy managed to cover the 3-point spread, while the 66 points sailed over the total odds of 43.

Meanwhile, David Garrard was 23 of 40 for 223 yards with three touchdowns. Generally, that’s enough to win a football game. Maurice Jones-Drew ran 27 times for 110 yards and a score, but once the Jags abolished their run game, they couldn’t keep the drive alive.

Jacksonville, now 7-7 and no longer in control of their AFC Wild Card fate, did have a shot at closing the door late in the game, but Garrard’s intended pass to Mike Thomas on third-and-10 with about a minute left was intercepted by Jacob Lacey. The Colts then ran out the clock and joined the elite 1972 Miami Dolphins and 2007 New England Patriots as the only other team to go 14-0 in the regular season.

The New Orleans Saints (-7) can hop on the 14-0 wagon as well with a home field victory over the Dallas Cowboys Saturday night.

“I thought today was a great test against a good team, Manning said. “Feel real good about the win.”

Peyton Manning and co. will attempt to go 15-0 next Sunday, December 27 against the New York Jets in Indianapolis. It’s pretty safe to say the Colts will be the heavy favorite in this one.
