Colt McCoy Injured, Weird Streaker, Texas Loses BCS

As Colt McCoy jogged off the field, his left arm dangling by his side, the NCAA Football-loving nation thought collectively: Blowout. And it was, for the first half of the game.

Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback Garrett Gilbert was able to live his dream of actually playing in the BCS title game against Alabama, but they was getting stomped. Bad. He needed to do something to get his team back into the game. Whether they were going to lose or not, he didn’t want to embarrass the organization.

With Texas trailing 24-6 with about a minute left in the third quarter, it seemed like the Longhorns were about to be just that. But after a crazy luchadore bee or whatever he was (pictured above) forgot to get naked before streaking down the field, Gilbert hit wide receiver Jordan Shipley with a 44-yard touchdown pass to make the score 24-13. Now we’re talkin’.

With 6:15 remaining, Gilbert nailed Shipley again and, with a successful two-point conversion, it was suddenly a three-point game. Holy crap, thought the NCAA Football-loving nation. It’s the comeback of a lifetime.

Or not.

With Texas ready to take the lead, Gilbert was blindsided by linebacker Eryk Anders, resulting in a sad, sad fumble that was recovered by the Crimson Tide near the endzone. Of course, Heisman trophy winner and BCS MVP Mark Ingram scored on a one-yard run to make it 31-21 before freshman running back Trent Richardson would add a dash of salt to the wound with a final TD to make it 37-21.

Ouch.

But the score simply doesn’t tell the story. It was a hard-fought game and Texas can be proud of the way they played, just as Alabama can be proud of their BCS Title.
