SAN DIEGO STATE VS. BYU

San Diego State is a very good team but just doesn’t have the same level of recognition among the wagering public that BYU enjoys.  These two teams met in San Diego on January 23, with BYU winning by 2 as a -1 road favorite.  The Coogs home court is a tough one, but not 7′ points worth of tough and that’s what the line for this game of -8′ is suggesting.  For two teams that played down to the wire in their previous meeting obviously the points are the play.

SDSU probably needs this game more in terms of their postseason prospects.  BYU will likely get an invite regardless of what happens due to the long hoop tradition of the Cougar program.  SDSU probably won’t at this point, but a win over BYU will help their cause immeasurably.  Scheduling also favors San Diego State and further underscores the importance of this game.  Aztecs remaining regular season games are against Air Force and Colorado State, two teams that they should beat easily.  This makes tonight the last ‘statement’ game until the MWC tournament.  BYU, meanwhile, has arguably their biggest game of the  year on deck as they welcome MWC leading New Mexico to town.  New Mexico beat BYU in Albuquerque earlier this year, and this revenge spot is followed by a game against in-state rivals Utah.

Overall, we’ll back a very good San Diego State team that is undervalued here and is playing with revenge in a more favorable scheduling spot.
